About the Research

This research focuses on improving workplace health and safety by addressing posture-related injuries. To achieve this, a cost-effective and resource-efficient seated working posture monitoring and feedback system has been developed. The system is composed of two key components: a working posture monitoring platform and an intelligent posture correction vest.
The monitoring platform uses two RGB cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to track and analyze users’ seated postures in real-time. By applying the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) criteria, the platform classifies working postures into various risk levels. The intelligent vest works in tandem with the monitoring platform, providing immediate feedback to users based on the risk level of their detected posture. For example, when a high-risk posture is identified, the vest delivers real-time vibration feedback and a flashing red light, encouraging users to adjust their posture and maintain healthier habits.
This system is not only designed to help individuals improve their daily sitting postures but also serves as a professional tool for occupational safety assessments. It offers valuable insights for employers and safety practitioners to evaluate and mitigate posture-related risks in the workplace, contributing to a healthier and safer working environment.
To ensure the system’s effectiveness, ongoing research is focused on thoroughly testing its reliability and usability. Studies are being conducted to compare the system’s performance against industry standards, refine its features, and enhance its user-friendliness.
